Management at the units called the man because of the severalburglaries discovered over the past week at Extra Space Storage,Smart said.

This is the eighth report of renters noticing cut or damagedlocks and discovering items missing from their units. So far, themissing items have included antiques worth thousands of dollars, aswell as electronics and tools.

Many of the renters last visited the location between Dec. 5 andJanuary, but the man on Monday told police he last visited Jan. 10,narrowing down the timeline for police, Smart said.

The couple lived together for a few months but do not livetogether anymore, Smart said. It was unclear if they are still in arelationship.

The man allegedly has a history of assaults with the policedepartment, but Smart said none of his previous assaults involvedthe teen.

This case will be assigned to a detective.
